Kaya Scodelario on Pirates 5: “It’ll be much more like the first film”

Over a decade after our first journey with Captain Jack Sparrow, the film franchise is dishing out a fifth installment Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is due to hit theatres in 2017.

While that may be a bit of a wait for most folks, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is sure to be worth it as the movie will have the original feel and intrigue of the first film, according to actress Kaya Scodelario.

“[The producers] want to take it back to the beginning again. They wanted it to have this epic journey, and for it to make sense, and for it to tie things up, and also lead to new storylines.”

Kaya’s set to play Carina Smyth, whom she describes as being both an astronomer and an academic. “She’s fighting for the right to study at university, because women couldn’t at that time….So she’s on her own journey – looking for the trident of Poseidon – and she has a diary with clues, and she encounters Jack Sparrow along the way, and he messes everything up. As he does. And it’s fun!”

Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush, and Stephen Graham are all returning to reprise their old roles, although it seems that Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swan will be sitting this one out.
