Photography of 1940s San Francisco

Nicknamed the Brassai of San Francisco, Fred Lyon is a now 91 year old photojournalist with a career reaching back far into the 20th century. Lyon spent the golden years of magazine publishing with picture credits everywhere from LIFE to Vogue. Below is a collection of his early work in 1940s San Francisco, capturing an American city and culture in flux.
